Council decision 6th September 2006
CARA organised a petition and got the issue of parking on Lower Ham Road
onto the Council Agenda. We have succeeded in limiting the number of cars
that will be parked on this road. In particular our actions were designed to
prevent users leaving their cars there all day - whilst they went to work,
and thus preventing visitors from enjoying the river.
Thanks to committee member Pat Mackay who lead this campaign.
Minutes of the Kingston Neighbourhood Committee meeting
There has been a 30% response to the consultation on the introduction of
waiting restrictions in Lower Ham Road.
77(62%) out of 124 responses agreed with the parking problem in Lower Ham
Road between Creed Miles and the sailing Club. The overall results show
that, there is no strong support for any one option. However, 32 (26%)
prefer option 1 which is to introduce double yellow lines. In Tudor Ward the
majority want something to be done to restrict parking by the use of either
double or single yellow lines, but not to ban it totally. The results also
show that any scheme being approved should be between Creed Miles and
Richmond Road.
RESOLVED that, in view of the results of the consultation and comments
received, the following restrictions be introduced to alleviate the parking
problems in Lower Ham Road between Creed Miles and Richmond Road:
1. between Creed Miles and Richmond Road
a. double yellow lines, 'no parking at any time', on the river side of the
road, except by the Half Mile Tree;
b. single yellow lines, on opposite side, 'no parking between 10.00 and
11.00 and between 15:00 and 16:00'; and
2. at the small parking area associated with the Half Mile Tree, single
yellow line, 'no parking between 10:00 and 11:00'.
Notes: Restrictions to apply throughout the week, Monday to Sunday.
Reason for decision
To alleviate the parking problems in Lower Ham Road; to enhance safety for
all road users; and to improve the environmental amenity of the riverside.
