Riverbank Clean up Operation

On 29 January, on a perfect Sunday morning, a group of local volunteers  organised by Jason Debney of the Thames Landscape Strategy, set to work to remove all the accumulated rubbish along the river’s edge from Half Mile Tree to Canbury Gardens and to cut back excess foliage, leaving enough to encourage the natural flora and fauna of the bank. It was a very satisfying, if a rather ‘mucky’ job but well worthwhile. Enormous amounts of plastic bags , bottles and cans were removed, to be recycled, of course! What a difference it would make if people just took their rubbish home!

CARA hopes to reinstate its former, yearly, river’s edge clean up and hopes that having seen what a difference it can make, local residents will consider volunteering  next year…..

Prohibition of free parking between Creed Miles and The Albany Sailing Club

The house- to- house survey produced over 80 signatures , almost all of which were in favour of prohibition.

The survey results, along with photographs, were lodged formally at the Kingston Town Neighbourhood  Meeting on 8 February with a request for an officer report.

Foxes

There has been a report of a fox entering a house at night through a cat flap, becoming terrified and as a result making a very nasty mess! – not to mention also frightening the owner!

Feeding foxes food meant for humans, compromises their health and discourages them from foraging naturally in the wild.  So please do think twice about doing so!

The same advice applies to feeding squirrels which cause damage to plants and trees and wildlife.
