CARA AGM – SAINSBURY ON OUR DOORSTEP. Come & meet the New Store Manager. We're delighted to welcome the manager of the store, Russell Walker, as the guest speaker at this year's AGM. This is your chance to find out what the develpopment will be like, what the store has to offer and how it will affect us. Its also a golden opportunity to voice concerns and have any questions answered.
SHARE THE HISTORY OF OUR AREA. The time of our annual general meeting is fast approaching and so we give details below of the formal agenda, as required by our constitution. That said, we try to keep the formalities as brief as possible! If you would like to propose a resolution at the AGM, please send a copy of the resolution, with a proposer and seconder who are members of CARA, to Penny D’Souza, 14 Chestnut Road, to arrive no later than Saturday 29th September. As for the rest of the meeting, we hope to have a representative from the local police, to talk about their activities and to listen to any queries and concerns. Then it’s over to you! Do you have any old photos, memories or tales to share, to show how the area has changed over the years? Many of us haven’t been in the area very long, but at the summer event and the recent Lower Ham Road meetings, it was fascinating to listen to others’ anecdotes and memories. If at all possible, we’d like to borrow old photos to add to our website, and capture some of the area’s history over the last few decades. We do hope to see you – the AGM is always a good chance to put names to faces and have a chance to chat to those we pass on the street!

Canbury Gardens. As you may know, CARA has been represented on a recent working party looking at options for Canbury Gardens. The Royal Park Neighbourhood committee meeting on 22nd May agreed that the following projects be added to their Capital Programme:
· Landscaping the bowling greens
· Removing concrete and landscaping the old bandstand
· Improving signage
This is currently costed at a total of £27,000. They also agreed that further work should be done to see how the old bowling pavilion could be brought back into use, and a long and medium term development plan be put before the committee. We were disappointed that no money was allocated to improve lighting and continue to pursue this with the council.
CARA Barbeque CARA members and friends came again to the annual barbeque and garden party on Sunday 15th July at the Albany Canoe and Sailing Centre. The weather was fine and the event was very well attended with around 50 adults and 20 children. For the first time, children were entertained with water activities on various boats supervised by members of the sailing club. Thanks to all helpers who contributed to the success of this party.
Proposals for Traffic Management & Environment in Lower Ham Road. Over the summer period, CARA hosted a residents meeting to present the issues facing Lower Ham Road now and in the future. Cllr Dennis Doe and a Royal Park Neighbourhood Traffic Engineer attended the meeting and heard feedback directly from CARA and residents. Following this meeting, a smaller Working Party was formed to come up with some workable proposals. We are currently at the stage where some essential treatments have been identified and further ideas are now being explored. At the same time, a bid has been put into the Council for an Area Improvement Grant; the result of which should be known by the end of 2001. Rest assured that no proposals would be adopted by the council without a full consultation of every household in the area.
Memorials in Canbury Gardens. A couple of residents have asked if it is possible to dedicate a tree or a bench in Canbury Gardens. We have followed this up with the Council, who pointed out that there is not much room at the moment to plant a new tree but they would be happy to discuss it – speak to Mr. Blake on 0208 547 5505. To discuss dedicating a bench, speak to Mr. Gray on 0208 547 5503.
